Divi Developer for Hire: Repairs and Divi 5 Migrations

Divi is forgiving when it is handled carefully and expensive when it is not. We repair broken Divi layouts, build new pages, and move sites to Divi 5 on staging, so nothing you rely on disappears along the way.

What we fix most

Divi problems, and what fixing them involves

Most Divi work we take on is repair rather than rebuild. These are the symptoms we see most, and what is usually behind them.

Symptom Layout collapses at one screen size
What fixing it involves

A column, spacing, or visibility setting changed on one breakpoint and not the others. We fix it per breakpoint and check phone, tablet, and desktop.

Symptom Shortcodes showing on the page
What fixing it involves

Text like [et_pb_section] appears when Divi or the Divi Builder plugin is deactivated or broken. We restore the builder, then find out why it switched off.

Symptom Custom CSS gone after an update
What fixing it involves

Code was added to the parent theme, which updates overwrite. We move it into a child theme so it survives the next update.

Symptom Slow Divi pages
What fixing it involves

Unused modules, heavy images, and third-party Divi extensions loading everywhere. We check what each page actually loads before changing anything.

Symptom A module or extension stopped working
What fixing it involves

Usually a Divi Marketplace extension that has not caught up with a Divi update. We isolate it on staging and fix, replace, or remove it.

The big question this year

Should you move your site to Divi 5?

Divi 5 replaces shortcodes with a new storage format, and Elegant Themes provides a migrator that converts supported modules for you. Whether to run it now depends mostly on what your site is built with.

Move now if

✓  Your site uses mostly core Divi modules ✓  You want the newer editor and cleaner storage ✓  You are redesigning pages anyway ✓  You have a staging site to rehearse on first

Wait if

●  You rely on third-party Divi extensions ●  Key pages use heavy custom code inside modules ●  Nobody can test forms, checkout, and layouts after the switch ●  The site works and there is no business reason to change it yet
How we migrate

A full backup, then the migration on a staging copy. We check every template, form, and page that earns money, fix what the migrator could not convert, and only then repeat it on the live site. If an extension is not ready for Divi 5, we tell you before anything changes.

Why careless Divi work gets expensive

The shortcode trap

On Divi 4 sites, every layout is stored as shortcodes inside your page content. If Divi is removed, or breaks badly, the design disappears and the shortcodes are left behind as raw text.

That is why leaving Divi 4 means rebuilding pages rather than converting them, and why we treat plugin changes on a Divi site with care. Thinking about leaving? Read about redesigning or fixing first.

What a page shows when Divi 4 is switched off [et_pb_section fb_built="1" _builder_version="4.x"]   [et_pb_row]     [et_pb_column type="4_4"]       [et_pb_text]Welcome to our site[/et_pb_text]     [/et_pb_column]   [/et_pb_row] [/et_pb_section]
What we do in Divi

Divi work you can hand over

Layout and breakpoint repairs

Pages that look right on desktop and wrong on a phone, fixed per breakpoint.

New pages and landing pages

Built in Divi from your design file, matched to the rest of the site.

Child theme work

Custom CSS and PHP moved where theme updates cannot overwrite them.

Divi 5 migrations

Rehearsed on staging, checked page by page, then repeated live.

Speed work

Unused modules and extensions trimmed. See speed optimization.

Takeovers

Divi sites another developer built and left, mapped before anything changes.

What it costs

How much does Divi work cost?

Two ways to work, both with the same team.

Hourly By the hour

Repairs, small changes, and open-ended help. No minimum engagement.

Fixed price Per project

New pages, Divi 5 migrations, and larger jobs, quoted against a written scope after we see the site.

The rate or fixed price is confirmed in writing before any work starts. Our guide to what it costs to fix a WordPress website explains why the same job quotes so differently across the market.

How it runs

How Divi work runs

Every change is made on a staging copy first.

1

Send the site

A URL and a line about what is wrong or what you need.

2

Written diagnosis

What is causing it, which Divi version and extensions are involved, and the fix.

3

Agree scope and price

Hourly or fixed, confirmed in writing before work starts.

4

Fix on staging, then live

Tested on phone, tablet, and desktop before anything ships.

For agencies

Questions we get

Common questions about Divi work

Should I upgrade my site from Divi 4 to Divi 5?

If your site uses mostly core Divi modules and you can test on staging, the move is usually worth planning. If you rely on third-party extensions or heavy custom code inside modules, wait until those are confirmed to work, because unsupported modules may only run through a compatibility layer.

Why is my Divi site showing shortcodes?

Text like [et_pb_section] appears when the Divi theme or Divi Builder plugin is deactivated, missing, or failing to load. The content is still there. Restoring the builder brings the layout back, and then the cause of it switching off needs finding so it does not happen again.

Why did my custom Divi CSS disappear?

It was almost certainly added to the parent Divi theme, and a theme update replaced those files. Custom CSS and PHP belong in a child theme or the Divi theme options, where updates cannot overwrite them. We move existing code there as part of any repair.

Can you fix a Divi site someone else built?

Yes. Most Divi work we do is on sites another developer built. We copy the site to staging, map the layouts, modules, and extensions in use, and document what we change so the next person does not start from zero.

How much does Divi work cost?

You can work hourly, which suits repairs and ongoing help, or take a fixed price per project against a written scope. Divi 5 migrations are usually quoted as a fixed project after we have checked which modules and extensions the site uses.
